Gabriel Jesus got ‘scared’ after World Cup scoring woes

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus has admitted that his season with the Citizens has been hampered by what happened with him during the summer World Cup in Russia. The Brazil international had gone into the tournament with the aim of becoming their leading star but his performances were far from impressive with no goals in the five outings before the team’s quarter-final elimination.

Speaking to Globo TV, Jesus acknowledged that the disappointment was a particular blow for him, given he had not managed to meet the expectations of the country on the big stage, he said:“That elimination of ours was a blow for all of us, especially for me. I went to the World Cup as a key player and I ended up not scoring. It affects you. I was scarred by that. People will always remember Gabriel who did not score in the World Cup.”

Brazil manager reveals his plans for Manchester City star Fernandinho

Brazil manager Tite has said that Fernandinho remains in his national team plans despite ignoring him since the conclusion of the summer World Cup. The 33-year-old has been a vital figure at the heart of the Selecao’s midfield over the past five years but he has fallen out-of-favour of late with young players in the form of Arthur, Walace, and Allan earning the recognition.

Despite this, Tite has said that Fernandinho still has the chance to return to the national setup, though he can’t assure him of an appearance at the next World Cup, he said: “He will return. I see moral and technical reasons for him to be here. I don’t know if he’ll be picked for the World Cup because of his age, but in the short-term, yes – (because of) his technical quality, the level he is playing at, and his moral quality.”

Tite is the right man

Former Brazil defender Lucio has stated that Tite is the right man to lead Brazil unto the next World Cup.

He believes that the manager is experienced enough and has the necessary charisma to lead a team such as Brazil. Lucio believes that Tite has made the right move to stripe Neymar from the captaincy, and that will be able to free the player.

TITE TAKES OVER

Brazil have confirmed the appointment of former Corinthians manager Tite as the new manager. The national team recently parted company with manager Dunga following a shock exit from the Copa America at the group stages.
