Newcastle United want Andrey Santos but Barcelona are trying to hatch a plan to sign the Vasco da Gama talent before the Magpies make their move. The Magpies already have a couple of Brazilian midfield stars in Eddie Howe’s ranks. Joelinton has rebranded himself, going from goal-shy striker to all-action midfielder under Howe. Bruno Guimaraes arrived in January and has taken the Premier League by storm, turning in some outstanding displays for Newcastle. Newcastle could end up with an all-Brazilian midfield though with another South American star wanted.
That’s because Torcedores in Brazil report that Barcelona are now pushing to sign the midfielder. It’s stated that Jordi Cruyff is working to sign Andrey Santos in January 2023 but allow him to remain with Vasco da Gama until the summer. That’s something that hasn’t been mentioned on Newcastle’s side, with Barcelona seemingly believing that Vasco could be tempted.
It’s stated that Newcastle have spoken to agent Giuliano Bertolucci to try and set up a deal for Andrey Santos and have signalled that they would pay €35million (£30million) for the teenager. That’s just shy of the €40million (£35million) Vasco want, which is the value of the release clause in their midfielder’s deal. Barcelona would struggle to pay that amount as things stand and Newcastle may well be able to beat the Catalan giants to an exciting deal.
